It seems the autumn colors are not appearing yet in our area which is so disappointing to a Lover of Autumn in Virginia. So, hubby and I decided to take an photographic excursion across several mountains to Monterey, Virginia. And, of course, that always means additional side trips. Looking down into Monterey we were pleased to see some autumn color.
After passing through Monterey, we began the climb up Monterey Mountain (which is 3,880 feet above sea level). Checking out the trees from that vantage point, we were delighted to see even more color.
One side trip took us into Blue Grass. We enjoyed seeing these old store fronts.
Continuing on up another mountain we found even more color. As well as a wonderful surprise.
I liked the way the trees seem to canopy the road (which by the way was gravel).
While shooting the above shot, Mike called to me and asked that I come to where he was and pointed out this surprise!!
The doe in the first shot just posed nicely for me for several minutes before the second one got up from her hiding place. Her white tail immediately went up. I didn't get as many shots of her before they took off together.
I liked this barn and was happy with these two shots.
Our next detour was to Williamsville which is a wide spot in the road...literally. Some of the sights we saw on the way.
Clover Creek Presbyterian Church

Williamsville on the right side looking up from the church. This is Slim's Grocery.
And the final autumn sighting.
