A Family Reunion

Mike and I have been married for 30 years and over those 30 years, his family has had several family reunions. My family, however, has not had any except for my brother and his children and grandchildren along with Mike and me and our family. So this past Saturday (June 8), the Humphries had a family reunion.

Although my dad was an only child, he had several aunts and uncles who had children. I never knew of them. Although my brother, Greg, was unable to attend, his youngest son, Bryan and his wife, Melonie, did attend. It was a beautiful day and quite a delight to meet second cousins and others.

The location was Mountain Valley Methodist Church, Rich Patch, Virginia. This is the church.

Bryan Humphries has done extensive research into my father's family which my brother, Greg, started a number of years ago.

It was a great day and I'm very thankful we were able to attend. And the food was good too!!

As an interesting side note, this is Mr. Bush, age 90, and quite a delightful and very healthy gentleman. He told us that he had been in Japan during World War II and after parachuting into a bamboo grove, lost the top of his ear. Once in surgery, the doctor told an attendee to retrieve the top of the right ear of a prisoner who was being executed. That ear was sown onto Mr. Bush.

His second story was that he and some other soldiers were ordered to assist several female missionaries evacuate the area. In order to encourage their haste into the troop plane, he boosted the last lady upon her rear. He says it turned out to be Billy Graham's wife, prior to their marriage.
